YMCA Run for Hospice

The 2007 YMCA Run for Hospice drew 206 participates. This year, the Y expects the largest crowd ever on November 28, starting in front of the YMCA of Talbot County. Come join the fun and raise money for Talbot Hospice and the Y’s Camp Lazy Days.

Join us in celebrating the 2008 Festival of Trees by participating in the “7th Annual YMCA Run for Hospice” Friday November 28 at the YMCA of Talbot County. The 10K event will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the 5K starting at approximately 10:05 a.m. Get the whole family involved in this post-Thanksgiving Day event. Strollers/wagons are welcome.

This exciting run and walk has become a yearly community event that draws participants from all parts of Maryland.  Runners also come from several other states across the country like Maine, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Ohio. Last year’s event had 206 participants and the YMCA expects an increase this year.

“The purpose for this Run is to support Talbot Hospice Foundation and the YMCA’s Camp Lazy Days Program,” says Tracy Cohee, event chair and YMCA Wellness director. “The YMCA of Talbot County is glad to host this event, it fits our mission, to foster opportunities for individuals, families, and community that strengthen healthy spirit, mind and body for all.” Talbot Hospice Foundation offers hope, compassionate support, and services to all members of the community facing end-of-life issues. They provide patient/family care, community education and advocacy while respecting both curative and palliative treatment choices. All services are provided without charge through the generous support of our community. The YMCA’s Camp Lazy Days is a free, six week, summer day camp experience for children with special needs.


There will be prizes for the 10K Run and 5K Family Fun Run or Walk, as well as, t-shirts, fitness related “goody bags”, nutritious snacks and water. Registration fee for children 5 and under is FREE, while children 6-12: $10.00 YMCA member and $15 non-member, ages 13 and up: $20 YMCA member and $25 nonmember. A $5 fee will be added to any registrations received the day of the event.
